ABOUT...Mount Olive Rotary

ROTARY! What or who is Rotary? Did you ever notice that sign that looks like a wheel along our roads and villages? Rotary is an international organization with a local commitment and dedication to community service and making our neighborhoods a better place to live!

Our Club was chartered August 19, 1976, with a total of 25 members. Although our club has decreased in members these past few years, it has not stopped us from our efforts. In fact we have now have 11 members in our club and all the efforts we apply to everything we do, you would think we have a large club. That is how dedicated our club is! The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of "Service above Self."

Rotary was founded in 1905 by a young businessman in Chicago by the name of Paul P. Harris. Today Rotary has grown to an organization in over 160 countries with over 30,000 clubs and over 1,100,000 members. Polio Plus is just one of our international projects that provide free vaccine to eradicate polio throughout the world. The project was started in 1985 and to date has reduced polio by 99% in the world. Rotarians are committed to total eradication!

Mt. Olive Rotary has sponsored a local Boy Scout troop for over 20 years; donated furniture and equipment to our police department; donated teddy bears to the Emergency Departments; donated funds to the local library; original sponsor of "D.A.R.E.": donated funds to "Camp Merry Heart," a camp for developmentally challenged children. We make a special effort to encourage the education of our children. Each year we award scholarships to outstanding students from the local intermediate and high schools. Recently, we started a dictionary program, in which every 3rd Grade student receives a brand new dictionary. Personally handed to them by our members.

On a international level, our club has hosted exchange students from other countries. As part of this program, our club has helped sponsor local students for a year of studies in the foreign country of their choice.

We meet regularly every week, on a Monday, 5:15PM at: (The Mount Olive Wyndham Hotel 1000 International Drive Mount Olive,  NJ 07836  (973) 448-1100.
